Biography
Larry Wenger, the founder of CaringCareers, is a 35-year veteran of human service management. After graduating from Goshen College in Indiana and from the University of Kansas School of Social Work (M.S.W.), he began a professional career in direct service and administration. He has specialized in child welfare and residential programs for runaway, homeless and troubled youth. He also has experience in mental health, developmental disabilities, and juvenile corrections.
Most recently, Mr. Wenger was Associate Executive Director of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen, NJ. This $48 million organization operates social service programs in four NJ counties, utilizes 30 different offices and employs 800 staff. Programs are fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. During his tenure, Mr. Wenger’s day-to-day work involved the oversight of six program divisions: Behavioral Health and Youth Services; Therapeutic Foster Care; Residential Services for Children; Child Care Centers and Resources; Health Services; and Housing and Social Concerns.
His work has taken him throughout the United States, Canada and Central America. For the NJ Division of Youth and Family Services, he surveyed programs in a wide variety of places throughout the U.S. He also developed programs for homeless youth in five U.S. cities as well as in Canada and Guatemala.
Mr. Wenger has developed an ultimate respect for the work done by direct care/direct support staff. Because of the work they do – and the amount of themselves they give each day – Mr. Wenger started Foundations for Community Programs, an organization dedicated to raising awareness of community organizations and their employees. More times than not, employees are given the highest level of responsibility but are paid the lowest wages. FFCP hopes that it can initiate programs that will raise the ability for community organizations to offer more favorable working conditions to such staff members.
Mr. Wenger is married with two grown children and a five year old daughter. He enjoys spending time with his family. He is also a member of the Lower Bucks County Chamber of Commerce as well as several industry organizations.
